Their work is all about simplicity and purity and since that is what we strive for… I knew we were in good hands.' - Jerry Helling The Cycle family was based on the reduction of elements. Following a geometric approach, the designers wanted to create something that appears very light yet elegant. In creating the design, every line and every detail was critical. Hansandfranz spent much time working on the juncture of the metal base as it turns to meet the upholstery, making sure it was perfect to make the piece work. The Cycle family of products is comprised of a round stool, round bench and an oval bench. In each, a tailored upholstered cushion floats above two symmetric loops of stainless steel. The exception is the elegant elongation of one metal loop to create the oval bench. The sheer simplicity of the benches and stools allow them to blend into a furniture landscape or to stand out as strong accents when they are upholstered in active fabrics or colorful leathers. Munich's brightest new talents, hansandfranz make their first appearance on the American design stage with a collection of benches and stools for Bernhardt design. The twenty-something design duo is comprised of Munich natives Horst Wittmann and Konstantin Landuris. Their work came to the forefront at the Salone Satellite in 2007 and was quickly followed by an appearance at ICFF Studio in New York.
